Love that dare not speak it's name...

  • Dec. 10th, 2009 at 11:11 AM
Is it possible to love an appliance? Because I think I do....

My parents got us a portable dishwasher for Christmas this year, and we ran it for the first time last night. OH MY GOD HOW DID I EVER LIVE WITHOUT IT?! It is AMAZING! I don't think our dishes have ever been cleaner...I want to wash everything I own now... And it was only $100 off of craigslist (best site EVER!) You know your old when a dishwasher and a roomba (which my parents got us last year) are some of the most precious things you own.. ;)

In other news I'm slowly getting excited about Christmas...mainly for the loooong vacation! I've also been dreaming of Christmas cookies...I've been entertaining thoughts of making some to bring to my parent's house for Christmas (in lieu of gifts since my family has agreed to have a low-key Xmas this year). Of course this all assumes that I will find some free time with my freelance...but I thought I'd ask you guys!

What are your FAVORITE Holiday cookies, (or cookies in general)...I have been craving the old fashioned sugar cookies that we used to make when I was little, cutting them with my grandma's cookie cutters and decorating them with colored chocolate chips and colored sugar...OMG NOM NOM NOM
Forgot to post this! OMG guys, I have Harry Potter art! It's been a long time. :x

Title: As You Witch
Fandom: Harry Potter + Princess Bride
Pairing: Harry/Luna
Rating: G
Summary: The Dread Pirate Potter and Princess Buttergood take a walk through the Forbidden Fireswamp

This was drawn for [info]savepureness for the [info]radish_love exchange. I took the liberty of checking out her userinfo for any clues about things she might like to go along with her prompts, and lo and behold, I saw that she likes The Princess Bride! And so the idea to do a Westley!Harry/Buttercup!Luna drawing got lodged in my brain, and I couldn't get it to leave. :) Thank you to [info]yamapea for all the handholding and the TITLE, and to [info]shes_gone for being my sounding board on this. ♥

Update-y

I had my first ever cavity filled this morning and now half my face is numb! It's so WEIRD!! I would SWEAR that half my tongue and the lower half of my face was swollen (even though it's not)..I keep poking at it to make sure it's there...so odd! I wish it would wear off because I'm getting hungry, but I can't eat until I know where my tongue is again least I chew it with my sammich...

I'm so sad I ruined my thirty year streak of never having a cavity..shame on me! It wasn't as terrible as I thought it was going to be but I'd rather not go through that again....

In other news, Matthew and I got new phones yesterday (our Christmas presents to each other LOL!). The plan was originally to get iphones, but ALAS they are expensive! I can't ever see a point in my life where paying $200/mo for a phone would be OK. Esp. for service that is less then stellar by many accounts! O.o so we stuck with Verizon and got Droids!! OMG THEY ARE SO COOL! Plus they were having a buy one/get one, so I got my lil wee Eris for FREE!

I am so in love it's not even funny. I spent all night downloading apps and games and browsing the internet and being a geek! I think a smart phone might just change my life y'all...

And now I'm playing around with the idea of getting an ipod nano...I might not be able to afford the seamlessly integrated life style that an iphone would provide, but a cut teensy lil ipod that could easily talk with my Imac would do very nicely...plus my Zen kinda weighs a million pounds.. ;)

HO HO spending money I don't really have! The holidays are truly here!

thankyou!

Okay, so just chalk this up to me being a horrible person...

Matthew and I have been watching "The Long Way Down", in which Ewen McGreggor and Charlie Boorman ride their motorcycles from the tip of Scotland to Capetwon, South Africa. It is an AWESOME series because it just documents their trip and all the amazing stuff they see along the way, and it makes me want to travel SO BAD.

Now, I will not lie, I have had a wee bit of a celebrity crush on Mr. Ewen for ages. That man is gorgeous:

It is a statement of FACT *points to icon*. Also it helps that he's been in 3 of my fave movies ever, and the only live action films I actually own on DVD( ie Moulin Rouge, Big Fish and Down With Love).

So in "The Long Way Down" his wife decides to join him as they drive through Malawi..and imagine my surprise to discover..SHE IS VERY PLAIN. It's like something exploded inside my brain and all of a sudden I could hear girls the world over screaming "OMG I COULD HAVE HAD A CHANCE!" I don't know why, it just blows my mind...for some reason I had always just assumed he was married to someone ridiculously attractive like himself and they would have ridiculously attractive children and live in their sparkly attractive castle in Attractiveland. Now I just find the truth so distracting it's disrupting my enjoyment of the show...it's like when Seth Rogan lost weight..now I can't help but feel a lil sad when I see him, remembering how it used to be ...

MEMEMEMEME!

WHEE Procrastination!!! Here are some answers to some questions [info]macbeemer gave me:

1. If money were no object and you had two weeks just to yourself (and Matthew, if you'd like ;)), where in the world would you go and what would you do there?

OMG, so many choices! I'm such a travel addict.. If money were no object I suppose I'd have to say Japan. Fly business class to Tokyo, and then travel around to Kyoto and Nara... ;) I'd actually like to rent an apartment instead of a hotel, because I'd like a peek inside day to day life in Japan. I'd also go on a ridiculous shopping spree for toys and antiques and textiles and furniture and art. I'd like to stay at a onsen for a night. I want to see the Ghibli museum. I'd also love to learn more about kimono and lacquer work and bonsai training...and basically just wander around and soak up as much of the culture as I possibly could!

2. Which five people, living or dead, real or fictional, would you invite to your fictional dinner party?

Obama (and Michelle as his plus 1, HEE!), because I am a fangirl and want to hug them and I feel like they would make awesome dinner conversation. JK Rowling, because I get unending joy from random HP minutia and I want to pick her brain SO BAD, Tim Gunn, because he is my perfect gay uncle/professor/mentor/BFF and I just want to hug him and get wise insightful advice. Pippi Longstocking, because she was my childhood hero and she'd have mad awesome stories to tell. And Lady and the Tramp, because they were my first OTP and who wouldn't want talking dogs at the table?

3. Do you believe in past lives? What, or who, do you think you were? When do you think you were?

I like the idea of past lives...and I like the idea of reincarnation.."believe" seems like a strong word for me because that makes it feel a lil too religious-y and me and religion don't mix well.. ;). I couldn't say who I was tho..I suppose the way I figure "past lives" would work is that you would be pretty similar emotionally/soul-wise to the person you are today. I was probably an old quiet person puttering around in their own lil world...since I feel like I've always been one anyway ;) Actually, now that I think about it I think my idea of past lives really mirrors the movie "What Dreams May Come", the vessel and situations may change but the "soul" stays more or less the same at the core, and you can meet up again with "souls" you were close with in your previous life (IE. significant others/ children/ parents etc etc)

4. If a semi-evil genie showed up and told you he was cursing you to live forever in a fictional world that you've only read about in books or watched on tv, but (because he's only SEMI-evil) told you you could
choose which world, where would you tell him to send you?

Oh, this one is easy..send me to Hogwarts plz!! I feel it would be especially cool since I am technically the same age as Harry and Ron and Hermione et al., so I'd already know whole group of folks there...Plus..I AM A HUGE DORK AND WOULD LOVE EVERY MINUTE OF IT

5. It's a dark and stormy night. There's a knock at your door, and when you open it, lo and behold, it's Godric, Eric, Bill and Sam. You're only allowed to let one stay that night, and only that night. Who do you
invite in?

OMG SO CRUEL!!! Gosh I'm so torn... I might actually surprise myself and choose Bill...because he's weeny, but he's also super attentive.. ;) Godric is cute, but too depressed..Eric is hot, but god he's such a childish dick...and Sam...well actually Sam isn't too bad..maybe Bill's little teeny tiny darkside pushed him over the top.. ;)

OMG I can officially use a Christmas icon now!

Have some doodles I did in PS the other day...

I think I might try and find a Mac friendly version of Sketchbook Pro...because I've seen a lot of folks use it and it seems like a lot of fun! Of course it will probably blow my resolution to do more colored illustration-y work out of the water, but we weren't making much headway with that anyway.. ;)

OMG Thanksgiving was SO GOOD! But now I'm back home and feeling fat and lazy..which isn't the best for freelance or dieting..oh wells! ;)
